In 2007, three Halton Hills environmental groups; Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources (P.O.W.E.R.), Healthy Options for people and the Environment (H.O.P.E.), and Willow Park Ecology Centre came together to create a unique project called Sustainable Halton Hills (SHH).
The idea? To help foster community sustainability by engaging and collaborating with all sectors and stakeholders in Halton Hills.
Sustainable Halton Hills will act to create and facilitate multi-stakeholder, non-traditional and traditional partnerships to foster actions for sustainability in Halton Hills.
VISION
A community working collectively to foster and make gains in sustainability at the local level.
PURPOSE
To bring together different sectors of the community to work collaboratively on projects that enhance understanding and actions for sustainability in Halton Hills.
SHH will seek to reach its vision and purpose in the following fashion:
- organize and convene the community to mirror that of the United Nations Commission for Sustainable Development (CSD) major group (9) and caucus structure.
- align its work with Agenda 21 and the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation.
- work proactively to identify trends and opportunities in Halton Hills that will stop unsustainable patterns of consumption and production.
- act in a non-partisan fashion
- enable all in Halton Hills to contribute
